Job description templates
Copy one, change the parts that are actually about your team, and publish it. Each template also says which fields to fill in so the role is eligible to appear in Google job results, which most templates leave out.
Administrative Assistant
The role most often written as a list of chores. Written properly, it is the person the office runs on, and the advert should say so.
Open the templateOffice Manager
Half the adverts for this role describe an administrator and half describe an operations lead. Say which one you are hiring.
Open the templateProject Manager
The title covers a dozen different jobs. The advert that works is the one that says which of them this is.
Open the templateCustomer Service Representative
Say what the volume is, what the channels are, and what the person is allowed to decide. Those three omissions cause most early leavers.
Open the templateExecutive Assistant
The job is judgement, not admin. Adverts that describe it as diary management attract the wrong shortlist.
Open the templateSales Representative
Sales candidates read the advert for three things: what they sell, to whom, and what the package really pays. Answer those and the rest is detail.
Open the templateReceptionist
The first person every visitor meets, and the advert most often written as a list of tasks with no sense of the place.
Open the templateBookkeeper
Name the software and the volume. Those two facts decide whether a candidate can do this job, and most adverts omit both.
Open the templateMarketing Manager
The title covers everything from running campaigns to running a department. Say which channels, which budget, and who else is on the team.
Open the templateSocial Media Manager
Say which platforms, who makes the content, and what success is measured as. Most adverts for this role skip all three.
Open the templateA template is a starting point, not the advert
The parts worth rewriting are the opening paragraph and the must-have list, because those decide whether the right person applies. Our guide to writing a job description covers what to change and why, and how to hire employees covers the steps either side of it.
