In this tutorial you will control when jobs stop taking applications, and see what happens when they do. You need the free WP Career Board plugin, installed and active. It takes about three minutes. There are four steps. Set the default length. Make sure jobs end on time. Give a job its own deadline. Then see a job that has ended. Step one. Set the default length. Go to Career Board, then Settings, Jobs. Default listing length is how many days a job stays open when the employer sets no deadline. It starts at thirty. With Pro, a board can set its own length, which wins over this one. Step two. Make sure jobs end on time. At its deadline a job stops taking applications and leaves the listings within the hour. Its page stays up, so shared links keep working. New sites do this from the start. A site set up on an older release shows a note and End jobs at their deadline. Click it once to switch this on. Step three. Give a job its own deadline. Open the job in Career Board, Jobs. Application Deadline is the last day it takes applications. Leave it empty to use the default length. Tick No expiry, and the job stays open until you close it. Then click Update. Step four. See a job that has ended. As a visitor, open a job past its deadline. The top reads Applications closed, with the date, and there is no Apply button. A note says the job has expired and takes no more applications. Lower down, visitors get open roles they might like. The employer is emailed three days before the deadline and again when it ends, and can reopen the job with a new deadline. That is all four. Set the default length, make sure jobs end on time, give a job its own deadline, and see a job that has ended. You can now control when jobs close. Next in this series: Feature a job at the top of the board.
